Throwback 2023

And the 2023 season has come to an end. Started off this post on 30 December but guess what it’s already almost end Feb. Looks like I really need to start writing throughout the year so that I have this ready before 31 December. Anyways I guess it’s a good start that I’m finally off the procrastination and working on this before half the year goes by. *I guess this is something I need to work on and complete before I start off on my next journey. But that obviously failed as we see how late this post was completed*

Throwback 2022

It's time of the year again for our yearly throwback. Just as with the past 2 years, this year flew by. Even though we've removed most of our COVID restrictions, we're still 'in the midst of a pandemic' so in Dec'22 almost 3 years since the discovery of this stupid virus, we're still wearing our masks on public transport. On the bright side, we're also returning to normal. This year we finally get to have large gatherings (e.g. concerts, commencements) and we get to travel without quarantine requirements (for some places).

2022 has been a year of changes, recovery, and pretty much a mess if I look back at it now.

Now let's get this throwback done before the clock strikes 12

*wouldn't want to delay this till 2023 Q3 again*

Here we go~

Throwback 2021

Good'day everyone
Time flies and boom we're at the end of 2021 already!? It's really been a year of ups and downs again, and COVID really didn't help slow it down. With all the opening and closing, restrictions on travel and eating-out, I realised I've kinda lost track of the things that happened. It feels like almost everyday it's just looking at the calendar and checking when will the government allow us to dine in groups of 2/5/8 again. With all these said, let's start our recap of this year...

*This post was meant to be a recap of 2021 to be completed by 31/12 yet I am writing it now as Q3 begins for 2022. It's been a busy year and work + school really ain't treating me ell. So for now let's try to finish this before the year ends.

And so 2021 begins...

Throwback 2020

Oh 2020, you came so fast and flew away even faster.
Remember 1 year ago, I was writing this throwback post, lamenting the fact that I had forgotten to write about 2017 or 2018 cuz I was too busy with life. Well, for this year, life had been too busy for itself. It's time to take a trip down memory lane and look at the highlights of 2020~

P.S. With everything that was happening throughout the year, I think I might have mixed up the timeline here and there.

Throwback 2019

And so, time flew right by....
Didn't find the time to write a 2017 or a 2018 throwback post and soon it's the end of 2019 already.

These 3 years have been pretty tough to go by to be really honest. Can't really remember what happened in 2017. Let's see what we did in 2017. Year 1 Sem 2, mostly studying, doing EnginClub stuff and preparing for a crazy summer. Summer really was crazy, did a lot of camp related stuff (From BME camp, ECE Camp, RAG camp and finally RAG), a lot of stupid things, nearly lost a close friend... Then came Year 2 Sem 1. Managed to really do horribly in the semester and then it's the end of 2017.

A lot happened in 2018 and 2019 just went by in a flash and all I did was pretty much clearing school related things.

2018 was a pretty eventful year. 21st birthday, lost my Ah Ma soon after, then came a year of rushing around hospitals and finally losing Ah Gong in December. Honestly, I don't really remember what happened in 2018 besides all these events. I spent too much time dealing with all the emotional ups and downs throughout the year that I pretty much didn't touch social media, let alone this blog. All I can say is 2018 was pretty horrible despite it supposedly being the "best" year of my life turned out to be a disaster so for 2019 I was really hoping for the best.

Now for the real 2019 throwback. 2019 was pretty eventful as well, had many new experiences and did many new things. So let's go on this throwback journey before I forget what happened and push this to a later date due to procrastination.

Throwback 2016

2016 is coming to an end soon. Can't believe it! This year, like any other year, flew past so quickly that I can barely remember what happened. (Well, having goldfish memory doesn't make things any better)

Looking back, I guess I can say that I’ve fulfilled my New Year resolution for 2016. 2016 brought me to new places, allowed me to explore and of course, I met new people along the way. I wouldn’t dare to say that 2016 was a smooth sailing year. From the disappointments to all the stress of a new environment, yet it’s been a really fulfilling year. I managed to do so many things I never thought I’d ever do. If you’re interested in what I hope from myself for the past year, click here to read the first post of 2016.

It’s been a pretty busy year and I realised I didn’t update this blog as much as I used to (and hope to) but I guess it’s enough to sum up the year for me haha.

Now for a short summary of 2016…

Throwback & Looking Ahead

Around this time last year, I wrote a post for my new year resolution. Well, it's the time of the year again for us to look back, reflect and set new goals for ourselves in the new year.

For me, 2014 was a year of surprises, from getting (unexpectedly good) O level results, to surviving a whole long year in Hwach, I realised I've changed quite a bit. (Read my 2014 resolution here)

A short summary of what went on in my life this year:

January
- Slacking off after O's
Well there wasn't much that I could do since I couldn't get a job and life was boring. Oh! It's the time when I first started DOTA. Can't really remember how I started but one fine day Mel and I decided we should game and we just downloaded and played. (I'm still a freaking noob since I decided I'll not DOTA until after As)
- JC Open House!!!!
Went for many Open House and collected a whole bunch of freebies (some of which are still brand new in my drawers.) P.S. Did I mention that I collected 5 of those floppy water bottles from these Open Houses? People need to look for other sponsors lol
- Release of O Level results
Still remember it like yesterday. It's frawking scary okay. People you'll understand how I felt when the day comes for you. It was really quite an unexpected end to my secondary school life. Didn't expect to get such good results. But then came the annoying part...
- Choosing my JC
Yes this! Trust me, it isn't as easy as it seems. If you're a 2 pointer, yes, it's easy for you, you can choose any school you want and not fear that they reject you. But being a 3 pointer, I was afraid and pretty much confused at a certain point. All along I had expected myself to do well enough to just get me into ACJC and just continue my life from there, but now that I got better than expected results I was pretty much torn between choosing the school I had always wanted and the 'better' school (Hwach/RJC) Well, eventually I made my decision to put Hwach as my first choice.

February
- Release of school posting
Was practically freaking out quite badly that morning waiting for the SMS to come. Mine took quite long, but it did come eventually. HWACH~!!!!!
- Stepping foot into Hwach for the first time
The day after release of results, we had to report to the school for orientation. My OGL already called me up the night before to let me know what to do and bring for orientations (OG2 FTW I miss you guys to mucccccchhhhhhhh)
- Fun & Games during orientation
Times were great as we all really enjoyed ourselves during this period. From OG games to POP which marked the end of orientation, I really had a lot of fun. I still remember being freaking awks with my OG and being so happy to have Angeline in my class. Meeting new people in S7C and finally being able to have so much fun before all the work started to pile in.
- BIRTHDAY!!!!!
Lucky for me, my birthday happened to be our 2nd day as a class and I was really surprised that my new friends made the effort to get me a small cake to celebrate. (Thanks once again for the cake) Went home for dinner as usual and had another cake with the family yay.

March - May
This 3 months was pretty boring (looking at my calendar there really isn't much to recap about) It's just studying, March holidays( which equates to more studying) and going for CCA.

Didn't really have much Badminton training at that time since I wasn't in team. Don't ask me, I don't even know why they didn't let me compete this year when they had so much space in team. Haish.

Spent quite an amount of time preparing for my OCIP trip as well. Didn't expect to be selected for the trip but surely I was excited to go to Nepal!

June
Went on a 9 day trip with an awesome bunch of people to the land of the unknowns. All of us really had a lot of fun serving the community there and I really enjoyed the CIP work. Not forgetting the chance to take so many beautiful pictures. If I had the chance, I would definitely go back to Nepal (hopefully with the same bunch of people) again. It's really an unforgettable journey and I thank everyone who shared this journey with me (some more than others)
- School work
Well it's true when they say there is no such thing as holidays in JC. Spent most of my holidays doing my Econs project, preparing for PW submissions and most importantly, mugging for the first ever major exam in my JC life BLOCK TEST!!!! (It's scary after not studying hard and slacking for so long)

July-August
Boring months again. I didn't even bother to update my blog during this period because it's just too mundane. Well, I did get back my Block test results and there was MAF, besides that, nothing much really happened.

September
- PROMOS
2nd MAJOR EXAM in my JC life. Spent a lot of time mugging and studying for it amidst all the preparation work for PW and CCA stuff as well.
- My first 5km run walk
My mum signed us up for the Straits Times Run while I was in Nepal so we completed our first 5km together yay. This sparked off our 5km spree. We've been looking for 5km walks/runs ever since.

October
This month is just PW crazy period. Meeting my members almost everyday, even on weekends. We literally editted our work till the last hour before submission and I really want to say it's a fun and tiring journey. Lack of sleep and crazy deadlines made us all zombies but thanks guys for putting up with my nonsense and for all the bridge sessions during our meetings ( I promised not to play bridge after Nepal, but you guys got me back into the game lol)

All in all, PW was a pretty enjoyable journey, I'm so going to miss it next year since no PW = More GP lessons.

November - December
And it't the holiday month. Holidays really are just like school days. I've been going to school almost everyday since holidays started and didn't really get to take a break from studying until this week ( When I literally stopped doing any form of work) CCA has also been tough ( Sports kills. Gym kills. And I'm still so fat after all the work out haish)

Well, my year sure seems eventful. After a year in Hwach, I've really learnt a lot and I'm confident I fulfilled at least half of my 2014 resolutions. Made many new friends in this new land, exercised a lot (A LOT) and I was happy for at least 6 months here so yups. Sadly, Lim0ncello didn't really work out as we are all busy with our own schedules and lives.

Looking ahead I shall set some new goals for 2015.

1. Study harder
As are approaching and J2 is going to be a roller coaster ride. Need to juggle between studying, sleep, family time and CCA commitments. I know it's not going to be easy but I really need to study hard to get all my As for As (Oooooo PUN!!!!) Shall work hard towards my goal to cut up dead people (hehe sounds creepy but ya I intend to pursue something in the forensics department)

2. Be more optimistic
People who got to know me think I'm a happy-go-lucky person but those who know me well enough will realise that I've been quite optimistic this year. So to start off the new year, I'll work on being a happier person and stop being so negative.

3. Find balance in life
People who know me will know that I'm a freaking busy person. I'm always running around, if not studying like crazy at home. Not much time for myself. So, as my exams approach, I really want to find the balance in my life and to do well without over stressing myself and end up falling ill.

4. Stay healthy & fit
Health is really important. Although there's isn't much time to spare, I want to be able to continue with my current work out schedule and stay fit (and try to lose weight in the process) Also, I hope to maintain my weight or shed a few pounds along the way ( It's going to be quite hard since I tend to eat a lot especially as exams approach)

This has been a really long post ( took me damn long to plan and write) but it's a nice recap of the year. While I was writing, I had the chance to look back at old memories, both good and bad, and really reflect upon them.

2015 will be a new beginning for me and I'll strive to reach greater heights.

Here's wishing all good health and Happy New Year.

Samantha :D

2014: A new beginning

It's finally 2014 !
Time really flies and before we know it, a new year had just begun.
I know I still haven't posted about my Europe trip ( hehe have been really lazy since the day I came back. I'm still jet-lagging really badly) but I promise that I'll get them up by tomorrow.

For now, I would just like to share this awesome video by one of my friends. ( Do subscribe to her channel and like her videos. She's really cool & fashionable, unlike me )

After watching the video, I really have to say, sometimes I wish I was a tad more like her. She was born 1 day earlier than me and she is so much more mature and fashionable than me. This video is really inspirational and got me thinking, what do I really want to achieve this year?

I haven't really set new year resolutions in a very long while ( The last time I did that, it was in Sec 1 if I'm not wrong. That was like 4-5 years ago already) but after watching her video, I'm really inspired to set goals for myself and really work towards them.

Since 2014 is a new year, I'm going to set off on a new journey. Next week, I'm going to get back my O level results and I need to make the crucial decision of choosing the right path. I feel like it's really important now that I set goals for myself and find a way to constantly remind myself that I have to work towards them.

For now, I'll just post up some of my New Year resolutions:

1. To make more friends
This year I'm going to carry on my studies in a JC (hopefully....) and I think it's going to be a new challenge for me once more. I still remember what happened in Sec 1 when I first get into a new school. I really hope it doesn't happen again. So this time, I'm going to be more receptive and take things less seriously when it comes to new friends. It's no point getting into fights and making enemies when you can make friends right? Thus, I shall try my best to be more approachable and make more friends (Y)

2. To work on LIM0NCELLO
For those of you who don't really know, I'm part of this "band" with 2 of my friends. Our little musical group haven't been able to produce any music since our formation since we've always been so busy with our individual work and life, so I hope that we can really find some time to get our band up and going. Also, I'll take the chance to work on my musical skills. (I'm suppose to be the "Guitarist/Song Writer" of the band, but I haven't been able to write a song out and my guitar skills are seriously not up to standard since I don't go for classes haha)

3. EXERCISE
It's been ages since I last exercised and I'm really gaining a lot of weight sitting here behind the screen. I was from badminton but ever since training stopped last March, I haven't really properly exercised. Hopefully, my future school will have a compulsory physical activity thingy like Crescent's FITT run or I'll have to pick up sports as my CCA again ( I don't really like the 2nd option because sports really tires a person out especially the physical training sessions. J1 will be tough to handle and JCs focus a lot on CCAs so I don't want my studies to be affected by my CCA)

4. Just be HAPPY
Life is such. I realised that throughout my 4 years in Crescent, I really face a lot of troubles and many of these are just self-generated. So this year, I hope to be more open minded and happy. Take things as they come and don't complain so much

Hopefully this year will be an awesome year and don't forget to subscribe to Leona [Click here to link to her channel] and if you want to, you can check out my YouTube channel, please subscribe and like.

Thank you
