This is me |
2016 is coming to an end soon. Can't believe it! This year, like any other year, flew past so quickly that I can barely remember what happened. (Well, having goldfish memory doesn't make things any better)
Looking back, I guess I can say that I’ve fulfilled my New Year resolution for 2016. 2016 brought me to new places, allowed me to explore and of course, I met new people along the way. I wouldn’t dare to say that 2016 was a smooth sailing year. From the disappointments to all the stress of a new environment, yet it’s been a really fulfilling year. I managed to do so many things I never thought I’d ever do. If you’re interested in what I hope from myself for the past year, click here to read the first post of 2016.
It’s been a pretty busy year and I realised I didn’t update this blog as much as I used to (and hope to) but I guess it’s enough to sum up the year for me haha.
Now for a short summary of 2016… Labels: 2016, 2017, My Life, New Year, New Year Resolutions, Throwback
Now that I've finally completed Year 1 Sem 1, I'm proud to say
that I've partially survived university life. And with all modules done, we
always wanna have a review about them. I have to say that these reviews are
pretty useful for Freshies, especially for those who want to know more before
making a decision on the course they want so here goes, my modular review for
Y1Sem1. *Well this post was supposed to be up when my results came back
but I was too busy yesterday to write so here we go, one day late but still
better than nothing.* Read more »Labels: 2016, Biomedical Engineering, BME, Module Review, NUS, Reflection, School Life, Uni Life Now for the long ass post. (Have to make up for my long hiatus from blogging) The last thing I really talked about before EWP was midterms and a lot of things happened from then till now. There were good days when I had a lot of fun from random shit that I did and there were also bad days when assignments, tests and everything was coming at me all at once. Pretty sure that there's not much of a need for me to talk about all these useless things here but I'm still gonna do it so that when I'm old and gray, I can look back and think about how dumb I was in the past. Haven't updated this blog in a really long time cuz uni has been really busy lately. Now that finals are over, it's time for multiple updates~
First up, #EnginWelfare GIVEAWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!1.5 months after elections, it's time for 39th's first event! Welfare Pack Giveaway. (aka the most shag event for me). Honestly, for a first time, it's rather successful for me huehue. I'm sure most people who came down to collect the packs were pretty happy with the goodies inside and all the fringe activities around, but bet you didn't know how much time and effort was put into packing the 2,600 bags. Took up the job knowing that it's gonna be super shag to pack the bags, but totally didn't expect it to be this tiring. 3 days, almost 72 hours with loads of help to unpack, count, pack and transfer all the bags from club room to the area outside LT6. Have to say, it was really an eye-opening experience. So here we go~ Read more » Labels: 2016, 39th MC, ExCo?, My Life, NUS, School Life, Uni Life, Welfare Hello World! One week ago, internals just ended and *SURPRISE* (Both to everyone and myself) I got in! Never really expected this but WOW! Now that elections are over, it's just the beginning for us in the 39th MC. Now for a little re-cap of the journey up till now... I have to say that RAG has been such a journey and I really had a lot of fun. For those who already know, you will understand how much I really enjoyed the dance and learning so much in costumes. So now for the main thing, the RAG CHALET!!!! In RAG Chalet we finally know who our Angel was for the Angel-Mortal Game. Have to say that it wasn't as fun for me I guess cuz my Angel was not there and I guess he was totally not interested in this game. Whereas for my mortal, I guess he just enjoyed the presents and well, it's been fun I guess. At least I felt the love from my Mortal sia. Well, for more fun, I decided to have another mortal which is my senior haha. Funny how he was totally fooled bout my identity and also much love for him. Honestly didn't expect gifts back from my mortals and the best thing is he actually have this Golden goodie bag like WTF *my mortals need to stop one-uping me* Read more » Labels: 2016, noRAGrets, NUS, SamFreedomAdventures, School Life It's the 2nd day of school! Wow! Can't believe that the 8 months of holidays have ended and I'm back in school. Certainly didn't expect myself to get into university considering how horribly I did in my Prelims, but oh wells, those are the thing of the past. Now that I've made it here, it's time to start mugging. Now to talk about something more related to the title of this blog post, my jobless life... Already set my mind on coming back to help out next year. RAG has definitely been an amazing journey and as I have said on my Insta post, I really treasure the friendship we've forged and the memories we share. Honestly, never really expected myself to step out and do something so different like dance. Although I always wanted the opportunity to dance, I knew I didn't have the talent and ability. Being part of RAG and dance was really something that came across my mind and really blessed to be able to be part of this whole experience. For those of you who have no idea what it is. RAG stands for Receive and Give. It's an activity organized by the NUS Student Union as part of the Freshmen Orientation activities every year. There are mainly 2 parts to this, the RAG part and obviously the Flag day part.
For those who know me well enough, you will know that I'm someone who will definitely sign up for flag day. Like I have no idea why, but I find this sort of stuff fun and meaningful at the same time. So why not?! This year, we'll be having flag day on 2 Aug all around Singapore (maybe I'll be at Orchard or something) So if you're free and see a bunch of young tired adults holding metal tins, do approach us and give generously to charity. It'll be certain that you will be seeing us along the streets, but I'm not sure how many of us will be awake and alive enough to approach people with a smile, so sorry in advance for our grumpy faces as we have late night practices the day before. On the other hand, do look out for the Engineer RAGgers and help us out. Although it's all for charity, it's also an inter-faculty competition as to who can raise the most funds. Engin has always been raising a really low amount so do appreciate the support!
Now for the surprising part, I've signed up for Dance and Costumes! Surprise! After staying in school for 6D5N, I'm finally at home and sleeping on a bed! The past few days have been filled with nothing but fun and laughter, be it from the camp itself or from RAG bonding day. Shall leave the RAG stuff for another post though I'm more excited to talk about RAG than Union camp... Nice to have met new friends and it's funny how I met a few familiar faces haha. (Had a good catch up with Wei Ling, my secondary school classmate and funny how my EnginCamp SP is now my OG mate hahaha) Honestly, I still enjoyed EnginCamp more, maybe because of the people or maybe just because I had a really bad SP experience, but the camp was still really really fun!! Time for the picture spam. (Can't really remember the details of the camp now, but I'll try to summarize it..) For those who might not know me as well, you'll probably expect me to be one of those happy go lucky person who take things really lightly and as quoted can "make friends without fears". Well, I'm not that fearless actually. I guess if you've been following this blog for long enough, or have nothing better to do and went to scroll down 200+ post to the early days (oh I cringe at those days when I literally post 3 lines for fun), you'll probably realize how badly things were going for me when I first entered secondary school. From the sadness of missing my old friends to the excitement of making new friends and eventually the pains of being betrayed by the people I trust the most. I guess you could say that all this is part and parcel of life and I guess it is with all these experiences that I've become who I am today. Here's what I've been up to lately. So I've been working since like December, mainly taking up really ad hoc jobs and I guess my 'most permanent' jobs would be giving tuition and doing some table clearing for buffet. It's been 3 months into my tuition job and I'm glad to say that at least I've passed my probation period and it's time that they pay me more or at least what I think I deserve. Given the fact that I've been working so hard and actually generating my own materials for my students, I think that my boss is 'exploiting' me a little actually. They actually expect me to come back to work on a public holiday sighs. Read more » Labels: 14S7C, 2016, Hwa Chong, Hwachi, HWACHIE, MuggerSam, PostAs, Rants, Results Hello world! It's 2016! Happy New Year! (Though I'm more than a week late) Well, it's already been really busy this year. Didn't have the time to write a year end reflection post for 2015 so I shall add a short reflection into this post as well. *Warning! This will be a pretty long post* Now to start off, it's only been a week into the new year and I've been really busy. For those of you who already know, I'm juggling ad hoc jobs together with my tuition job and now I'm taking on the buffet server job. Sounds like I'm mad but yeah, need the money. My tuition job is my first ever job and it's been really good up till now. Still can't believe that I got the job which started right after my chalet and it's quite interesting teaching the kids. Unlike what most people think, I currently have 2 students for each class and it's pretty manageable for me (No need to use the white board phew). Other than that, I'm trying out this hotel job as a buffet server (more of table clearer haha). To be really honest, I've never really expected myself to take on such a job because I try to avoid jobs that need me to 'serve' others but well, somehow I got this job and somehow, it's been pretty alright. (At least on my first day). I guess it's been really nice to have money flowing into my pockets finally and I'm really looking forward to the rest of the month when I can confirm more permanent ad hoc jobs with other companies. Next, shall talk a bit about my fun times. Seriously, I'd never though that I'd still be hanging out with some people after we graduate. 2015 was a pretty hard year and loads of things happened. Some of my closest friends left me and some came back (or did they). Things happened at home and results was pretty shitty. I guess 2015 was really a roller coaster ride. But I'm glad that it's over. If you asked me to go back and restart the year, I would change some things that I did and said but no regrets. People come and go and I think there's no point being sad over the few who don't treasure you. Well, moving on to the happier stuff. Glad to have my friends with me, and I'm pretty surprised who I ended up going to Poly Open House with haha. Interesting bunch. Haven't laughed so hard in such a long time, so much so that my face was aching when I got home. I'm convinced that once you hit 18, all your conversations really change a lot. We no longer have any self-censorship and boom everything from bras to R21 topics take over. Moving on to the new year, adventures part. This year will hopefully bring me to new places, to meet new people and hopefully bring me to a better place that will create more meaningful memories. I've had my fair share of pain and suffering and I'm pretty sure, this year there will be more of such experiences, yet, I'm confident that I'm ready to handle what is ahead. With the people that actually care and love me, thanks for all the support y'all have given me all this while. I'm sure 2016 will be a better year. From 2015, I've learnt to let things go. Forget the people who treated you badly, forget the things that made you unhappy and really focus on the important things in life, the important people and mainly, focus on your own dreams. I hope that this post wasn't too boring (it probably was cuz of the reflection and shit) and I hope it inspired you to take on a new perspective in life. May 2016 bring us happiness and more fun. All the best everyone. Sam Labels: 2016, Life, random, Reflection |
