This is me |
Well, it's almost time for module selection season and I'm finally updating this review for AY2021/22 Sem 2. This will be my final module review since I'm finally graduating for good (I hope, unless I decide to take on another post-grad degreee/PhD?). Similar to the previous semester, I was working while trying to clear my final 3 modules of my MSc and lucky/unlucky for me I managed to get a mod taught by my boss, so that made my life slightly easier, yet there were expectations to be met. Aside to this being my last semester, it will also likely be the last semester that NUS will hold modules online in view of the improving COVID-19 situation. That means the mark allocation and grading requirements might change for modules again, On the bright side, at least you will get to meet your peers. One of the saddest things throughout my MSc life is that I never once met with any of my course mates, well in fact, I have never seen anyone in person, so that's pretty sad. All in all, this MSc journey had not been easy, but we made it. Here you go, the final review *Disclaimer: Due to the COVID-19 situation that happened during this semester, the grading for modules were modified to meet the Work-from-home requirements and it might not be continued in the future. This was suppose to come out earlier or at least before the previous one, but due to some super unforeseen laptop crashing, I'm only writing this so late into the holidays. Not sure if I mentioned this already in my previous posts, but MSc coursework programs for part time students are normally 2.5 years long (aka 5 semesters) but in view of my impending unemployment, I've decided to try to finish my Masters within 2 years. That entails me doing 3 mods each for the remaining 2 semesters and after this semester, I can safely say that it was a very bad idea. Not only has the workload increased exponentially, it's also a lot of stress working on multiple projects, trying to not fail my quizzes and managing work-life balance. So if you are intending to pull of such a stunt, my advice is make sure you have enough vacation leave so that you can have at least 2 weeks to chiong your studies. *Disclaimer: Due to the COVID-19 situation that happened during this semester, the grading for modules were modified to meet the Work-from-home requirements and it might not be continued in the future. We're in mid-June now and results came out on 1 June this time. Found some time to consolidate my thoughts and I guess, this semester was harder than before (though I think it's still not as bad as Year 2 Sem 2, that was a horrible sem). We're still on the COVID work from home period so lessons were still conducted online but we did have a chance to attend some face-to-face classes if the class size < 50. Editor's Note: Funny how this post started in June but finally completed it in December, right before we get our results for the next semester. *Disclaimer: Due to the COVID-19 situation that happened during this semester, the grading for modules were modified to meet the Work-from-home requirements and it might not be continued in the future. Labels: 2020, 2021, Material Sciences & Engineering, Module Review, MSE, NUS, Reflections, School Life, Uni Life And so I decided that further studies is the way to go in this horrible pandemic-struck economy. After getting my Bachelor's in June, I somehow got convinced to go for a part-time Master's degree in Material Sciences & Engineering. The people around probably know that I wasn't really considering this degree and was leaning a lot of into Forensics, Food Sciences and Public Health. But somehow or another, I decided that the 4 years of torture in Engineering was not enough and decided to get back into the game. Maybe there was this part in me that thought that since I had an Engineering degree, it wouldn't be too hard for me to handle it at a Master's level, especially since I took 5k mods at an undergraduate level. Oh boy, I was so very wrong. Stepping into the module with zero prior knowledge was a terrible mistake. I found myself struggling to catch up with work and eventually there was a point in time where I just gave up on trying to understand and every lecture was just going through the motion and attempting to digest what had been taught. So now that I've decided not to drop out after my results were released, here's the review for this semester (because I could find almost no information on these post-grad modules and felt that people coming in should be more informed on what they are getting themselves into. *Disclaimer: Due to the COVID-19 situation that happened during this semester, the grading for modules were modified to meet the Work-from-home requirements and it might not be continued in the future. People are staying at home.

The roads are empty and ...
ERPs have finally been defeated 🤯 Singapore, June 2020Circuit breaker was extended, making it a 2-month long work from home period June holidays were brought forward Re-opening occurred in phases GE2020... It's July 2020 now and I'm finally getting about to completing this post~
Welcome to Circuit Breaker 2020!Read more »Labels: 2020, Circuit breaker, COVID, NUS, Reflection, SamFreedomAdventures, Uni Life Finally decided to spend some time working on this category of posts. This is the final one in the series #ORDLO so let's keep this short and sweet. This final semester, besides the mandatory FYP which I had been working on since Sem 1 (unofficially working on it since Year 3 Sem 1 hahah), I decided to do the bare minimum to clear graduation requirements. So 12MCs of Technical Electives (TEs)out of the very limited list of TEs available for BME students. Let's get to this *Disclaimer: Due to the COVID-19 situation that happened during this semester, the grading for modules were modified to meet the Work-from-home requirements and it might not be continued in the future. Year 4, finally, we've reached the final year in my undergrad life. Can't believe that I kinda successfully made it to year 4... Shall be skipping FYP in this review since it deserves a dedicated post (too much of a torture so yes it deserves an entire post for itself.)
Not going to drag this introduction so here goes the module review that I was supposed to do like ages ago... Read more »Labels: 2019, Biomedical Engineering, BME, Module Review, NUS, Reflections, School Life, Uni Life
At least 2 years had passed and I finally found the time to work on this module review. Since I'm writing this in May 2020, there might be a lot of changes since AY18/19. Shall keep my reviews short & sweet (isit need to work on getting onto google...)

Was suppose to write this review about 1 year ago, yet 2018 had been such a busy year that I didn't even have the chance to post anything till now. Now for the Year 2 review... Read more »P.S. It's been so long since I last updated my blog cause of life, but yay I'm back and ready to clear all my backlogs while I'm on internship so that I won't have so much to write about when school starts in August. I apologise for the short reviews since it's been so long since I took the mods. (Really should have done this earlier) P.S.S I am finally completing this in May 2020... Finally, I'm back with
another module review post, it's been so long but hey, at least this time I
found the function for me to figure out which
Another sem of taking
7 modules, this time there's no slacky mod like CFG1010 (well, you can consider
GEQ as a slacky mod, but there's a lot that needs to be done as compared to
Roots & Wings). If I were to summarise year 2 sem 1, I'd say that it
was a whole new experience, from actually waking up for lectures and scribbling
like a shit load of stuff on my notes, to actually fearing of failing my core
mod cuz I thought I flunked the 30% quiz so badly.
Well, enough of all
this blabbering and move on to the real stuff, here's the module review! Labels: 2017, Biomedical Engineering, BME, Module Review, NUS, Reflection, School Life, Uni Life
And I'm back with the 3rd post for the night. Welllllll, this was supposed to be up at least 3 months ago, but it's been 1 semester with this new team, which means more stories to share and of course, more photos!!!! Won't be writing much about the whole process of elections again so you can check out my 39th MC post here where I talked about all the details: https://pioneer-crescentian.blogspot.sg/2016/09/enginclub-39th-mc.html#.WkKQaN-WZ3g
Many people asked me how did I end up in EnginClub again, I'm pretty sure I said that Welfare was the end of me, but somehow, I managed to convince myself that there is a need for me to stay in the club to watch all my efforts continue for at least another year. Wouldn't it be a waste to watch all your efforts go to waste at the end of the year. That's the problem with student clubs, we're appointed for 1 year and when our term ends, all our projects leave with us. Well, you can say that we are suppose to pass on the materials to our successors and help guide them to continue with the legacy, but everyone has their own ideas and it's not very nice for us to impose our own plans on others, and so there goes all the efforts of the team. Staying in EnginClub, I get to contribute to the legacy I left behind.
Going through the same process again this year (just that we had shorter preparation time), the feeling's really different considering the fact that the people who are interviewing you are you friends who worked with you for 1 year and internals was surprisingly still as scary as before, but oh wells, I somehow got myself into this position and with all the workload on my shoulders haha. (Side note, I like how Wei Yin said that my presentation for this year was more nonchalant than last year haha, I guess my style never changes.) Another super late post (wellllllllll at least this one was in like Week 5?) Really wanted to write this after the dinner but I have been super busy with life ever since so here I am, day 361 in 2017, finally writing this for my dear 39th and welfare
It felt just like yesterday when I just stood on the stage to get my appointment letter from Prof Chua and now, here I am giving out appreciation letters to my team. I would say that it's been a tiring, but worthwhile. Working with people whom I've never worked with before, stepping out of my comfort zone, it was fun while it lasted. 1 year with 39th, we've experienced so much. Chilling in the shady EA Club room, shifting to this new office like place, finding the magical window, having our own bonding day, chalets, going crazy together. Still remember all my angst and rants, 'hatred' towards certain people due to our clashing leadership styles. All these little memories are the things I really cherish from working with everyone. So thanks a lot 39th, I think I really don't say this enough, but really thank you to each and everyone of you who watched and help me grow. Never did I expect myself to find a family, but yay, I left 39th with a papa (Kaung), mama (Yong Shun), gor gor (Hong Yan), aunties and uncles, 卖菜的auntie/mei mei (Jie Ling) and many more. Thanks for always helping with my events and the packing and tanking all my rants and complains.
Moving on to my dear welfare team. LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!! You guys have no idea how much I love y'all and how thankful I am for each and everyone of you guys. I remember when I first formed this team, there were a lot of unfamiliar faces, we saw so many people leave the team (and the countless who never turned up) and at the end of the day, I'm thankful for all of you who stayed. Will always remember our over night packing, suppers, doing weird shit in the club room (our Mario cart races transporting welfare packs), our supply chain sweat shop and of course, the fun times watching soccer after packing, doing more weird shit together. All these are the stupid memories that I will keep close to my heart for the rest of my life. I think I've said enough to you guys along the way already and I'm not gonna bore the readers with all the cheesy stuff.
Time for some reflection. Read more »Labels: 2017, 39th MC, 40th MC, ExCo?, My Life, NUS, School Life, Uni Life, Welfare
Raging inside as I write this post (for the second time!!) Was actually done with it but chrome decided to crash on me when chrome decided to crash on me! Cancer sia.
Well now that I'm back at this post, I hope I can remember what I was trying to express previously.
Soooooo, was supposed to write this right after the camp ended but obviously, I'm late again. Forgive me, my dear readers (I wonder how many people actually bother to keep following my blog to check for updates... Leave me a comment plox)
*Problem with goldfish memory is that I can't even remember what I wrote right before this so it's probably going to be a bit different from what I initially wrote ... :(*
Let's start this post off proper! Read more »Labels: 2017, Camping, ECEcamp, NUS, Orientation, SamFreedomAdventures, School, Uni Life
Time for a super duper late post. BME CAMP 2017!
Yes, camp happened at the start of June and it's the start of August already. Forgive me for my horribly packed schedule this summer that I have zero time for myself, let alone to write blog posts. But rest assure this post had been planned for since the camp ended, just that I really have no time to write. Brace yourselves as this will be a really long post (gotta start it way back from the planning stage all the way till the execution)
So let's throw back all the way to May when we actually started preparing for this camp. (Yes it's really late to start planning for a camp 1 month before but well, our camp turned out fine so yay). If I were to summarise the planning stage, I'd use one word to describe it, CANCEROUS. Have to clarify this, not to say that the people involved were bad, but it was just really rushed and there wasn't any concrete plan to it. And of course, me being the kancheong spider started panicking for no good reason (or maybe there was a really good reason and that would be that camp was supposed to happen in 1 month). Really thankful for all the people who were not in main comm but decided to help us out in programs and also vetting our proposal. Much love for you guys. Planning stage eventually went alright with a few minor changes here and there and we cleared Prof. Lim in one go so yay!
Now time for camp! Labels: 2017, BMEcamp, Camping, NUS, Orientation, SamFreedomAdventures, School, Uni Life
Now, I have to say, Sem 2 flew by so quickly that I didn't really pay much attention to the details of life. This is an extremely late module review update and summer is going to end soon so, YES I'm finally going to write the module review post.
Not really sure how many people actually find this useful and all but at least for me it was pretty useful when I found out more about the modules though some senior's blogs. So here we go, module review for the sem where I decided to go all cray cray with 26MCs (that's 7 modules for those who don't know)
P.S. It's been so long, I can't really remember most of my tutors and lecturers so sorry about that.
Labels: 2017, Biomedical Engineering, BME, Module Review, NUS, Reflection, School Life, Uni Life 15 hours to the start of finals (essentially the second last part of Y1) and I should really be studying considering the amount of work that I have to catch up with. Yet I'm here, 'happily' typing away instead of mugging away for a paper that I'm pretty much not prepared for (screw GER, how can one be prepared for any paper to be exact)
Well, as the AY comes to a close, there's really a lot that I want to talk about, share with the world and really just to get things off my chest. As the year pass, I realized that my sanity is slowly dwindling away, and the emotional roller coaster really isn't helping. With all the stress from welfare events and academics (which if you were wondering aren't really going very well), I find myself breaking down way too many times (and of course, for the wrong reasons as well).
Really jealous of the people who don't have self-doubt and are just confident. As much as I want to and appear to some people, I'm still far from confident. *surprise*
Yes, your welfare director who went through externals, interacting with random people, cleared internals without shaking and presentations without dying is very afraid of public speaking and stepping out of my comfort zone. Not that I haven't been out there before, but every time I step out, something bad happens and I come back in feeling a little worse than before.

Now that I've finally completed Year 1 Sem 1, I'm proud to say
that I've partially survived university life. And with all modules done, we
always wanna have a review about them. I have to say that these reviews are
pretty useful for Freshies, especially for those who want to know more before
making a decision on the course they want so here goes, my modular review for
Y1Sem1. *Well this post was supposed to be up when my results came back
but I was too busy yesterday to write so here we go, one day late but still
better than nothing.* Read more »Labels: 2016, Biomedical Engineering, BME, Module Review, NUS, Reflection, School Life, Uni Life Now for the long ass post. (Have to make up for my long hiatus from blogging) The last thing I really talked about before EWP was midterms and a lot of things happened from then till now. There were good days when I had a lot of fun from random shit that I did and there were also bad days when assignments, tests and everything was coming at me all at once. Pretty sure that there's not much of a need for me to talk about all these useless things here but I'm still gonna do it so that when I'm old and gray, I can look back and think about how dumb I was in the past. Haven't updated this blog in a really long time cuz uni has been really busy lately. Now that finals are over, it's time for multiple updates~
First up, #EnginWelfare GIVEAWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!1.5 months after elections, it's time for 39th's first event! Welfare Pack Giveaway. (aka the most shag event for me). Honestly, for a first time, it's rather successful for me huehue. I'm sure most people who came down to collect the packs were pretty happy with the goodies inside and all the fringe activities around, but bet you didn't know how much time and effort was put into packing the 2,600 bags. Took up the job knowing that it's gonna be super shag to pack the bags, but totally didn't expect it to be this tiring. 3 days, almost 72 hours with loads of help to unpack, count, pack and transfer all the bags from club room to the area outside LT6. Have to say, it was really an eye-opening experience. So here we go~ Read more » Labels: 2016, 39th MC, ExCo?, My Life, NUS, School Life, Uni Life, Welfare Hello World!
